A new STARt for the Southfield Triangle Residents Association
Announcing The STAR VE Day Street Party!
The start of May this year will see national celebrations taking place across the country to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and we are pleased to announce that Ealing Council have given us permission to host our very own Southfield Triangle VE Day Street Party in the afternoon of the Bank Holiday Monday, May 5th.
We’ll be closing off part of Greenend Road between Rugby & Hamilton Roads to host the party, and everyone in the entire STAR area is invited. This is a community event, so there is no ticketing or entry fee.
We’ll be raiding the Scout Hut to borrow their supply of tables and chairs, we’ve managed to unearth a large stash of Union Jack bunting left over from the Coronation to decorate the street – and we’ve even arranged a special flypast by the Red Arrows to mark the occasion!
(OK, they will be on their way to Buckingham Palace at the time, but previous flypasts usually go over the back of Greenend and Hatfield Roads .. so we’ll claim this one as “ours” anyway!)
We’ll be sending out more info soon, but for now all you need to do is make plans to join us at some point in the afternoon on Bank Holiday Monday May 5th, and to bring along some cakes, food, drinks and good cheer to share with your neighbours and ensure that we have a real party atmosphere at our first neighbourhood social event of the summer!
(The opportunity to host a VE Day Street Party over the May bank holiday weekend does mean that the “STAR Summer Party” event originally pencilled in for June will now likely take place at the end of the summer. Look out for more details soon.)
About STAR
Southfield Park Triangle, at the corner of Bedford Park in Chiswick W4, has enjoyed the benefits of having a Residents Association (SPTRA) for many years.
In 2024 a group of residents have come together to bring a fresh new approach to running the association – resetting its mission to one of empowering, supporting and promoting a wide range of activities that our residents want to get involved in running, as well as continuing the association’s important role of being a point of contact with local councils and all of the other authorities who’s remit impinges on life in our area.
Our aim is to work with the many existing networks and communities within our area, amplifying their reach and embracing modern communication tools – as well as maintaining our strong tradition of personal contact so that everyone in our area is included.
In November 2024 the association adopted a new name – The Southfield Triangle Association of Residents (STAR Chiswick) – together with a new constitution that dramatically reduces the amount of time (and money) spent simply “administering” the association, and instead frees up those individuals willing to step forward to get involved and help bring our local community together.
The current Committee includes both current and former SPTRA committee members, together with an eager and enthusiastic group of new volunteers willing to give their time and energy to maintain and renew the association on behalf of all of the residents of our area.
Over the coming months we will be working on building out our new network of residents, recruiting Road Reps for each of our 10 streets, creating interest and activity-based groups through email and WhatsApp, planning and announcing community events and activities, and adding to the content on this, our new website all with the aim of ensuring that our neighbourhood in Chiswick can continue to enjoy the benefits of having a Residents Association.
What we stand for
Listening, Connecting & Amplifying your local voices
We believe the key role of a Residents Association is communication – listening to what our community wants, connecting existing communications networks, and promoting initiatives our neighbours want to get involved in – and of course, remaining a vital conduit for external bodies to communicate with the neighbourhood.
Creating opportunities for the community to come together
We want to restart many of the succesful and regular events which have done so much in the past to bring our community together – but also open up the role of the association to new inputs and ideas, supporting new and existing activities throughout the year.
Drawing on the expertise in the community
Our residents already possess a huge wealth of experience in all areas where a residents association needs to be active – and we want to draw upon that experience, not through standing committees with unnecessary admin, but with “on call” networks connected by modern communications tools, so those willing and able to contribute are called upon only as and when they are needed.
